Tyler and Heather are two Hawkeye-ish fans (with other Big 10 allegiances), and they chose to get married at the Iowa Memorial Union on a Hawkeye game day. So that probably made for a super crazy day, right? Nah, we hardly noticed. But the craziness their wedding party brought certainly had things turned up a notch! It was all good though, and I think everyone had a great time celebrating these two. And we were happy to endure their craziness that was all in good fun. I actually love a wedding party that will banter with me, because I know they are more comfortable and there will be more personality in the photos.
The day started at Adeva Salon in Coralville where the girls had their hair and makeup done. After the final sprays, we travelled to the Coralville Marriott next door to shoot some details and get Heather into her beautiful wedding dress from Amelishan Bridal. After our bride was fully put together, it was time to bring her together with her groom for their first look. It was sort of drizzling and sunny at the same time as the two laid eyes on each other for the first time on their wedding day, but we just rolled with it and the weather cleared up for the rest of the day . . . until we left in an absolute downpour after the reception that night!
After the first look, we traveled to Terry Trueblood for some casual bride, groom and wedding party portraits before the ceremony. On a little cooler day, it was not busy and there was a very peaceful vibe out there near the water. I think the environment there fit the style and mood of their wedding theme perfectly with the greens and blues.
The wedding ceremony and reception were both at the IMU on the campus on the University of Iowa. As usual, having both events at the same venue was super convenient for wedding guests. Tyler and Heather caught a bit of a break weather-wise for their outdoor ceremony, and everything worked out according to plan. I’m not sure if they were family or friends, but both the officiant of the wedding and the singer (who sang several songs during the ceremony) made things a little more personal. They also locked a wine box to open with letters from each other at their 5 year anniversary.
After sealing the deal with a kiss, everyone walked upstairs into the beautifully decorated IMU reception space. The staff provided a great dinner and DJ Clife provided the entertainment and a few surprises along the way. Denise of Gems & Joy was busy the whole day, working behind the scenes to make sure every part of the day went smoothly. It was a pleasure to work alongside each of them. Kudos to their maid of honor, best man, and Heather’s mom and dad for giving the crowd (and us) a few laughs during their toasts. Well done, you guys!
Tyler and Heather, well done to you guys as well! It was a delight to serve you guys on your wedding day and to be able to laugh alongside your wedding party. Thank you so much for having us! We hope you guys enjoy this quick sneak peek!
