Matt and Mackenzie have a similar story to us, in that they were both originally from SE Iowa, and then moved to Kansas City after college. They were looking at having their wedding in Kansas City, but ultimately chose to do something totally different, instead opting to have the festivities closer to "home" on a family farm in West Point, Iowa. The result was something so much more fun and unique (and also convenient for their attending guests). The private residence wedding plan required more effort, and I know it was an emotional roller coaster, but it was an awesome day to be a part of! Their plan almost looked disastrous as the week unfo ... READ MORE

Ryan and Lindsay had their wedding ceremony and reception at Bella Sala, just outside of Iowa City. Getting to know Ryan and Lindsay throughout the last year, I have appreciated that Lindsay knows what she wants, and won't settle for anything less. That kind of tenacity is helpful for us, because she is willing to go to extreme measures to make sure her vision comes to life and that we can make the most of the photos. Aaaaaand turns out, going to extreme measures was actually quite necessary on their wedding day! Previous record high temperatures were shattered over Memorial Day weekend, but maaaaaaaan, Bella Sala has a beautiful outdoor cere ... READ MORE

Over Memorial Day weekend, we traveled down to the Weston Red Barn Farm—just north of Kansas City—for Blake and Madison's wedding. It was a day and an event that was beautiful in so many ways. Having worked with Madison's family before, I was excited because I knew we were going to be blessed with a gorgeous event to document, and the warmth of their gracious hospitality. These guys love to laugh, and they are not afraid to cry, which gives us a chance to create images that you can really feel. Additionally, we were fortunate to keep the rain away that had lingered around in the forecast all week. Yep, the skies parted and it was nothing but ... READ MORE

In the midst of training for their final track meet of the year and studying for finals week, Taylor and Anna devoted an entire evening to being in front of my camera for their engagement session. I really enjoyed my time with them in Pella, Iowa, as I think they literally greeted and knew each person we encountered around town. As I always say, it's fun shooting in new locations because it keeps things fresh for me and it's an inspiring challenge to create in environments that I'm seeing for the first time. Pella is home to millions of Tulips in May, and Central College (where Taylor and Anna are graduating from). We tried to create some pho ... READ MORE

We spent this weekend documenting the wedding of Scott and Laura at one of our favorites, Barn on the Ridge in Burlington, Iowa. The weather was . . . ehhhhh . . . sketchy, to start anyway. It rained pretty hard for the first 2-3 hours that we were there, but fortunately, about an hour before we were planning to take photos, the rains had moved through, and the temperatures were able to climb to a degree that was a little more comfortable. The sun didn't really show itself much, but I was okay with that, because we had the full array of the Barn on the Ridge property at our shooting disposal in 360 degrees. Denise Grimm with One Fine Day dese ... READ MORE
