If ever there were a time that I wanted to work topless while photographing a wedding, it was for Teddy and Alisha’s day. I can’t tell how appealing the thought of shedding clothes sounded. The poor guys in their suits! We won’t mention what the heat index was before the ceremony when we were shooting outside, because you would think I’m a jerk for doing any photos outside. And I kind of was. But that’s all in the past now, right??? And once we got acclimated out there it wasn’t THAT bad. Major props to this wedding party for just trusting us and giddying up to make the memories of Teddy and Alisha’s day more photogenic. And now memorable too. 🙂 Teddy has one of the most infectious laughs I’ve ever beheld, and the two of them are among the most hospitable couples we’ve had the privilege of partnering with. Even despite the heat, they kept laughing, smiling, and just enjoying their day to the full.
We spent the whole day out at Bessie’s Barn, just west of Centerville, Iowa, as they had both their wedding ceremony and reception there. It’s quite a convenient venue with everything that you need on site, and its character abounds. (Another plug for the convenience of having your ceremony and reception all in one place.) The plan was to have the ceremony outside, but they swiftly audibled that because of the heat, and transitioned into using the reception space for the ceremony, which didn’t feel like a compromise to me at all. It was totally the right call! Teddy’s dad was the officiant for the ceremony, and each of their parents participated in the ceremony in some fashion. That was pretty neat. A big shout out to Kyle Hupp of Epic Events who I thought was a terrific DJ and super helpful in helping the reception run smoothly. He also kept the dance floor full and the party going for the guests. Even though it was toasty during the heat of the day, as the sun sets and the temps cool down, summer evenings outside can be some of the best times. I know there were a bunch of people that took advantage of the Barn’s outdoor spaces while we were out photographing the beautiful sunset.
Teddy and Alisha, thank you guys for choosing us to be a part of your wedding day! You guys were so pleasant and it was our privilege to spend the day with you guys and your families. I’m all on board for doing it again next June. 😉
