It was a privilege and a delight to partner with Ben and Mattie on their wedding day. They are so genuinely in love and were so genuinely excited to begin the journey of marriage together. They take marriage and its commitment seriously without taking themselves too seriously. They are humble, kind and appreciative of all those that surround them. I’m pretty sure they sent out a blanket of thank yous that encompassed basically everyone at the reception. They’re our kind of people. 🙂
We started their day getting ready at the always wonderful Hotel at Kirkwood, which was also the venue for the wedding reception. We traveled to Hancher in Iowa City for some wedding party photos before the ceremony, which gave us a nice, contemporary backdrop. The wedding ceremony itself was at St Andrew’s Church in Iowa City, which has a relatively new building and LOTS of natural light (thank you very much). Ben and Mattie wrote their own vows and had a few other personal touches incorporated into the ceremony to make it even more meaningful. It was a full ceremony with love, laughter and tears. After dismissing their guests, Ben and Mattie were sent off in Ben’s grandparent’s pristine vintage car, Ol’ Jenny, which certainly made for some fun and unique photos. There was so much to shoot on their day—pretty stuff, emotional stuff, funny stuff. It was all good. The reception featured tons of people on the dance floor and a 95% synchronized wedding party dance.
Ben and Mattie, we wish you guys all the best in your marriage together and your lofty educational/career pursuits. You guys have been a real treat and we really appreciate you having us as a part of your wedding day!
