We experienced a miracle of nature this Saturday for Derrick and Chelsea’s wedding at Barn on the Ridge in Burlington, Iowa. Seeing the 100% chance of rain for Friday night, for Saturday and for Saturday night, Chelsea sent me a text a couple days before the wedding saying, “Having a little freak out about the weather for Saturday!” Well, it rained on Saturday. But if you’ll notice from these photos, we were blessed with a solid 8 hour window that let an outdoor ceremony happen, and all of the portraits of the day be outside. There may have been a few goosebumps (some of them mine, since Kara forgot her jacket and stole mine all day (love you, baby)), but I think Chelsea has to be thrilled that her midweek freak out didn’t come to fruition! We were very happy for these two, because I know they booked this awesome venue almost two years in advance, on what you would think would be an ideal date weather-wise, so we were glad they got to take advantage of all that Barn on the Ridge offers with its many outdoor perks. These two have been dating for 9 years, I think, so this day was a long time coming! With two years to plan and save up though, these guys created and hosted a beautiful party with all the decor, good food and good times. Well done, Derrick and Chelsea—I know you guys have had a lot on your plate, but you pulled everything off beautifully! Before the party kicked off, I love that we even went out for “sunset” photos, even though I don’t think the sun had been spotted for something like a week prior. I really dig those dramatic cloud shots as it’s starting to get dark at night!
Derrick and Chelsea, thank you guys so much for choosing to have us document your wedding day! You guys have such an exciting journey ahead of you, and we wish you a lifetime of love and happiness together as you experience it together!
