Will and Sarah graciously invited me up to Chicago to photograph their engagement session last month. They are originally from Cedar Rapids, but sought job opportunities in the Windy City. Being that Chicago is a big part of their story as a couple, they wanted to capture that in the photos, since their wedding is going to be back in east Iowa. They squired me about the north side of downtown, and I tried to give them a set of images that were definitively “Chicago”. So hopefully that really comes through in the photos! We couldn’t have chosen much worse of a weekend in May to shoot weather-wise, but these guys patiently let me try some different things in the chilly, dreary climate. It’s not hard to see what the day looked like with the downtown buildings disappearing into the low hanging clouds! I tried to use the conditions to my advantage on a couple of the photos near Lake Michigan, as the soft, gray light provided an extremely simple and quiet backdrop that these guys could really pop off of. It’s always a fun challenge to shoot in new environments, and Will and Sarah were tenaciously agreeable, and on-board with all of my crazy ideas. I appreciate that so much, you guys! Thank you for having us up!!
